Chevelle’s tour started and my family and I went to the show in Asbury Park, NJ on August 23rd. We had never been to Asbury Park, but it was a cute beach town that looks similar to Ocean City, NJ.

My family always take a goofy selfie while we’re at our concerts. My kids hate it, but they’re good sports.

The show was at the Stone Pony stage, and it was an outdoor venue. It was pretty small in there, but that was fine by me because we could see everything pretty well.

The opening bands were Dead Poets Society, who we missed and Asking Alexandria, who we could have missed. (They used to be good, right?!)
Chevelle came out at exactly 8:55 pm. We were a little far back, so my photos (as usual) are not very good. But here are a few anyway…

Overall, it was a great show. The boys were energetic and they sounded fantastic! However… I was a little disappointed with the setlist (I’ll add it below).
But after talking with Sam, I think I understand the issue a little more, but we’ll get to that.
When the concert tour first got going, I was so excited because they added a few songs I couldn’t wait to hear:
- Get Some (my absolute favorite!)
- Family System
- Prove to You!!!!
Thankfully, they kept Family System and Prove to You in there, but they chucked Get Some. Noooooo! I was so sad.
They added three songs from the new Bright as Blasphemy album:
- Pale Horse (my personal fave from the new album)
- Rabbit Hole
- Jim Jones
And the rest of the setlist was their standard they’ve been playing for years, which the superfans love to complain about. This isn’t my post, but I do complain too!

They have sooooooo many good songs in their catalogue that they never play. I know it’s because the non-superfans want to hear the hits. I get that. When I go to see a band that I like but I’m not a superfan of, I also want to hear the hits. That’s what sells tickets.
But I have an idea for Chevelle.
Pick a location (Chicago would be fine to make it easy for them) and do one 3-hour long show for the people who want to hear all the other stuff. Let’s make sure The Red is banned from this show! I am 100% positive they would be thrilled with this ban.
Sam said Pete could do a long show if they didn’t have another one the next day.
How can we make this happen?
If only I had thought of this idea at the time we met Sam.
Speaking of…
We got to meet Sam Loeffler!

In my last post, I mentioned a promotion Chevelle’s doing on this tour. Fans had a chance to buy the snare drum used at each of the shows. I had no idea if there would be a meet-and-greet, or if Sam would just chuck it into the crowd at me.
Here’s what happened…
First, I emailed support from their merch website and asked what would happen because the website wasn’t specific. They said I would be texted on the day of the show and told where to go.
I got the text, and I almost deleted it because I thought it was spam!

The text said we could bring 1 guest, and there were four of us, so we had to decide who would come with me. But I told my fam, “Let’s all go and see if they let us all in anyway.”
If they didn’t, we decided my daughter would come with me. My son didn’t care too much, and my husband already met them once.
After the show, we went to security, and the security guard let us all in. He went to get Chevelle’s manager, Gina, who would then take us backstage. (Gina was a sibling, or a sibling-in-law we later found out. She was nice to chat with and very organized!)
When she came, she said “Who’s going in with you?” I was so disappointed that we couldn’t all go! The she said, “Kidding. You can all come. We just try to limit it to 1 because we don’t want someone bringing 20 friends.”
Yessss!
I asked her if there was a chance I could get a drumstick to go with my beautiful drum (getting a drumstick was on my bucketlist) and she said “I think I can make that happen.”
She came back with two.

We went to this building that was like a hidden lair and Gina explained that after Sam was done getting changed, he’d come in and sign the drum and the certificate of authenticity and then we could get a picture with him.

And that’s exactly what happened.
Sam came out and said hi and asked if we liked the show. (Of course!) We chatted for a bit. He was very nice to talk to, and he enjoyed that we brought our kids to the show.
I asked him what happened to Get Some? “I saw it on the setlist, then it was off the setlist.” He said fans weren’t connecting with it.
What?!
We need to have a word with these people…
So that’s how the setlist mostly reverted back to what it’s been for the past upteen times.

Now I just need to figure out how to display all this! I’m going to incorporate the guitar pick I got from the 2022 Orange Loop Fest in Atlantic City.

One more thing…
We made it to Chevelle’s story on Facebook!

How fun is that?!
